Hello friends! Here we are in the heat of summer. It feels busy along with hot and stormy from my little vantage point. It has me thinking of cooler days and some of my favorite birds who only visit here in cooler seasons. One of my very favorite birds is the loon and since I’m feeling “loony” today I thought I’d share loon photos from spring migration today!

I’m positive I hold my breath every time I see a loon rise from the water. Aways makes me think of a phoenix rising.

I can’t believe I never shared this one, it’s one of my favorites.

They rise up with a twist. In qigong we have a similar move called “swimming dragon”, but loon does it better!

I so rarely get them in the right light to see that gorgeous red eye.

Loon makes his own hole in the water and then dives into it.

Barely making a splash, just disappearing out of sight.

This one was still changing from winter feathers to spring party clothes.

Here’s a view I almost never see - loon in the air! You can really see his turquoise collar I this light.

I can never get enough of loons. I would watch them for days if I could.

I’d love for my neck to move this way!

…going…

…gone.

The most magical thing about loons is they way they can appear from nowhere and then disappear the same way. You never know where they will come back up when they dive or if you will even still be able to see them. I think it’s a super power I’ve always wanted.
