“Gratitude training is like sifting through the mud and finding gold gems.” - Lee Holden
Sunrise November 10, 2023
I laughed a little at the quote above because it’s so true. I had a local friend ask me where I take my photos and when I told her she said, “Wait, we go there all the time but I don’t see what you see!” Isn’t that the way it is?
There are things I look past and around to take the photos I take. There is (way too much) trash, there is noise from the two major highways nearby, sometimes there are events that block access like the recent marathon and the upcoming fireworks. Some days it would be easy to look around and think there is nothing here to photograph - yet there always is. There is always something of beauty, something to be grateful for, something unexpected. It really is like a treasure hunt.
A few more pictures from the great flicker "discussion" a couple weeks ago!
I just LOVE their yellow feathers! In the west they have red feathers, in the east yellow. We are in the middle but we are in the yellow zone.
Osprey in golden light
I’m pretty sure this could be interpreted as, “hey photographer, that was supposed to be MY spot.” Herons let you know.
The flocks of Franklin’s gulls are smaller but they are still here!
And by fewer, I mean no longer thousands but you can see it’s not “few”!
Morning gull yoga.
Cooper’s hawk buzzed my head in the low light before sunrise and landed right in front of me. He proceeded to chase off all the birds the rest of the morning and never give me another shot in good light. I mean, the least he could do if he’s going to chase everyone else away!
I believe the dove colony that’s been hanging out in this area was more interesting than I was.
The loons have changed into their winter clothes. I am so glad they visit here in the fall and spring so I occasionally get to hear that call echo across the lake.
What’s harder to photograph mid-air than birds, butterflies, or dragonflies? Leaves! Finally caught one (mostly)!
The colors of fall.

“In the eye of the beholder” ….that’s what came to mind as I read your post. So true, not everyone sees the same thing… so glad we get to see what you see here…. I can almost hear that loon echoing across the still water❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍👍👍👍

You get the best photos! I'd like to go with you to the lake one morning and see how you do it.
