Drops of Beauty #172

Hello friends! This week has been a whirlwind with my day job being so busy and the sun coming up later in the morning pushing me right into the work day. We were very fortunate with the storms last night in my little nook of things and I am grateful for that!

Here are some favorites for today:

Sunrise, March 12, 2024 - March does tend to be windy.

The grackles have returned!

And they are doing their best “scary clown” imitation!

This female downy woodpecker was busy inspecting every nook and cranny.

Yet she stopped to pose so nicely for the photographer! So generous!

One thing I love about flickers is they wear their heart right on their head.

I find flickers on the ground often, apparently they like to dig in the dirt for bugs!

Speaking of posing nicely! It seems like I always get more photos of juncos just before they leave. Maybe it takes them that long to get comfortable with me - and then they are gone.

I love having the silly killdeer back. They are one of the earliest nesting birds.

I can never get enough of robins. They are singing so beautiful now too!

Peaceful sunrises are my favorite. (February 24, 2024)

Juncos do the “sparrow scratch”. They jump back and forth to stir up whatever is on the ground. You can see the sand was flying.

There are still snow geese passing over.

Very few ring-billed gulls still around after numbering in the hundreds all winter. Everything changes.
