Ah, spring. It’s warm, it’s cold, it’s wet. Everything is blooming, I am sneezing, birds are singing, birds are bickering with each other, and somehow all of this means something is right with the world.
So many interesting things happening - at least they are interesting to me! Here are a few for today:
Even a rainy spring day can have a little bit of color, even if it doesn’t last long. Sunrise, April 15, 2024
“Attention. Attention. All hands on deck. We have an intruder.”
“Blue Bomber has been deployed to intercept the intruder.” (also, I really love how yellow blue heron feet are!)
Do you see the intruder down there, hiding among the coots?
Coots getting out of the way…intruder taking off. There’s only room for one blue heron in this cove today.
Meanwhile, down in the grass, the dandelions are providing tasty meals for sparrows. First up is this dark-eyed junco who really should be headed north soon.
I found this Harris sparrow hiding among the dandelions too.
I can barely see the field sparrow over the grass.
But then he hopped up on a branch and posed for me - I guess he really wanted his picture taken!
Down by the water, this swamp sparrow popped out for just a brief second to snag a bug off the rocks before hopping back into the brush.
The song sparrow spent a little more time hopping around on the rocks. He had a nice meal of mayflies.
Cormorants don’t mess with something as small as mayflies, they are all about swallowing a fish whole.
Blue-winged teal was coming in for a landing before he saw me at the last minute.
Things were peaceful at the end of the day.
