Hello friends! It’s been such a good week. A little sun, a little rain, watching the moon ever so gradually shrinking, was gifted a few surprises, and delivered a few surprise gifts of my own. That’s a good week! I’m always grateful for the birds, the lake, and all the spirits that love, support and guide me out there and everywhere.
If you managed to find this post in the onslaught of “black Friday” emails, you deserve to be rewarded with some beauty!
Sunrise November 26, 2024. Remembered why I like carrying a second camera rather than my phone for sunrise in the winter! Not only does it capture birds in low light better, but my fingers stay nice and warm in my gloves.

“Hey dude, watch where you’re going!” - Killdeer to the Bonaparte’s gull. Bonaparte’s gulls are one of the smallest gulls, but they are still a lot bigger than a killdeer!
“He’s still back there, isn’t he?”

Bonaparte’s gull showing off the top of the wings. One identifying mark for a Bonaparte’s gull is the “leading white edge” on the top of the wing, which you can see here.
Yellow-rumped warbler, yellow-rumped warbler, yellow-rumped warbler…wait, that’s not a yellow-rumped warbler! Lovely to see a golden-crowned kinglet so early in the winter! Some winters I see a lot, last year I saw very few, maybe this is a good sign!
I had forgotten I had these lovely splash photos from late October!
This one looks like the sphynx to me, or maybe a lion or dog laying down patiently.
Look at that one bubble with filaments in it! Water is so fascinating, especially when you add wind and sunlight.
The flocks of robins have gotten quite large and the trees are producing a nice bounty of berries for them.
I had a wonderful surprise this week, which I will write more about for the weekend. Can you see them? It’s amazing how hard they are to see given how large they are.
