Hello friends! I thought that was such a lovely quote from my dream, even if it was dream me that said it. We so often think about what is on our mind, but maybe more often I’d like to think about what is on my heart.
The lake is still 95% frozen, but the warmup is coming. Photography is an ebb and flow and we have been in a big-time flow for the past 10 days! This means I have taken thousands of photos…and processed only a few. Not to worry, I will catch up when the ebb comes, which is likely when or if the lake melts, but the in-between where it freezes and thaws can also be quite spectacular. Can you believe there was a time I adamantly insisted I was a summer person and wanted nothing to do with winter? Funny how we change!

Just a few geese hanging out in the frozen cove.
This was such an exciting sight! Even though they never came close, seeing 14 trumpeter swans is always a treat.
Junco friend hopped right up by where I was sitting.
He didn’t stay long!
One of my favorite parts of a frozen lake is actually getting to see the hooded mergansers!
The other day, I wondered why I don’t take many photos of white-throated sparrows when they are always around. I think this picture helps you understand why! They can be right next to me, but it’s still hard to get a clear shot.
Also a good PSA for why leaving leaf litter is so important!
Perspective makes a huge difference. I took this shot from ground level and the next one standing up of the same piece of ice.
This ice creature has such a sweet face.
I was just fascinated by the shape this little bit of ice melt was taking. Salamander maybe?
I think my yellow-rumped warbler friend built himself a little snowman.
