Sunrise, February 1, 2024
Hello friends! Including another shot of that gorgeous sunrise from February 1st. As I expected, the photography has greatly slowed this week with the crazy warm temperatures, though there have been a couple of moments I am excited to show you this weekend! Never fear though, my folder of winter ducks and ice photos still has over 400 possibilities! So without further ado, back to the stars of our show, the hooded mergansers:
Skidding in to a stop, Mr. merganser makes a good impression on the ladies.
I like it when they pose in beautiful water! I also love seeing the water roll off their backs, just like the old adage says.
I love trying to catch that tail flip when the dive too!
And that final wave of a tail with the splash bubbles!
They really do seem to enjoy making a splash!
One bird who can make the ducks do a lot of splashing is bald eagle! You can see the white color under the wings, but with the all-white head and tail this is probably 3 or 4 year old eagle. I don’t know what was in his talons.
Mrs. merganser always seem to have a twinkle in her eye.
I have very few flying photos - once they get in the air they are fast!
Mr. Mallard is showing you that water doesn’t always roll right off…sometimes it freezes.
Speaking of frozen, I was completely fascinated by the intricate designs in the ice this time. Almost like an artist sat their and drew them.
It would be so easy to walk by and not see these “street murals” Mother Nature created.
When the light catches them, they become even more fabulous.
And in just the right light, you might see a shooting star.
