Hello friends! Today I’m focused back on the hooded mergansers, with a small series of photos of them out of the water. Apparently even when it’s frigid cold, sometimes you just have to rest on the ice.

This sunrise from January 17, 2024 shows you about how big the pool of open water was. (There were two like this.)
I love how sculptures are created inside the ice! Like a natural snow globe.
Sometimes the ice is like a little prism. I love how the rising sun lights up the beautiful imperfections.
I hope you’re continuing to enjoy ducks and ice. I’m glad to have something to share in what’s become a bit of a season of gray and mud - but some great sunrises!
