Migration deserves some extra posts, and though it may take me half the summer to get them all out, I am determined to share some of the amazing surprises that happen during spring migration in Kansas City.
One bird I rarely see showed up on a cloudy day, the lesser yellowlegs. The only thing “lesser” about them is they are smaller than their brothers the greater yellowlegs. I have seen sometimes seen one or two, often quite far away and not easy to photograph. This year a flock of 19 arrived! These are my favorite photos, taken as I sat and let them run all around me as I wrote about last week.
Wishing you all a lovely Friday the 13th!
Such beautiful images, Karen!
Just beautiful, Karen! Even though these are still images, I can sense the movement in them. It must have felt wonderful to be in the presence of these beautiful beings.
