A pack of cooties always make me smile! I think about how when we were little, we tried to run away from cooties, and now that I know what coot are, I run right towards them, or I would, if they didn’t run away from me.
I must say, the call of the loon is one of the most spectacular displays of nature. Once I was pack-backing in back country with my son, on canoes, and we had a couple (2 or 3) loons in pursuit keeping tabs on our whereabouts every so often surfacing near the canoes. I knew this signalled that we were a threat, probably because we were too close too their breeding grounds, but the accompaniment still felt like something very special and very beautiful (I could observe them swimming in and under the canoes which was such a beautiful sight). At night, when we camped, we could hear them eerily calling across the lake. Such an incredibly beautiful sound although I had no idea what they were saying.
Ah, such fun to hear your voice as I scroll through the images. That really brings it alive, and feels more like a shared experience. Thank you for sharing the quiet ... and for that important thought that maybe we could return to calm more quickly if we abided there more. Lovely!
Thank you Jeanne! I haven’t done that in a long while. Mike Snowden got me thinking about a multitude of ways to make things livelier so I will try some!
What a fun post! So grateful for you sharing your priceless photos and perspective. Love Shovelers! They are so cool with their colors and big wide bill. I read it acts as a strainer for the water to keep only the tasty morsels in. ❤️
Some of my best times have been in resting quietude, watching leaves suspended on the quiet water so they can do their dance in the wind and current, and hearing the cooties "gaddling" (my word for it) and their wingtips slapping the water over some slight or spat or approaching gator. I am glad for these moments. Thank you for educing these memories!
It's blessedly quiet this morning here, too. For a medium-sized town Boca Raton has a very high energy level, probably due to all the urban transplants who have come to live or visit here and are used to a brisker pace. Even the ocean never stops talking! So for things to be this still is a rare treat. To share a bit of good news from nature: Our beach's sea turtle rescue project has produced a bumper crop of youngsters this year! Now if we can just get them safely out of their nests and back to the sea it will be cause for great celebration!
Your posts are some of my favorite. I like hearing your voice. I tried that on a recent post. A wonderful feature here.
Beautiful images, beautiful thoughts...And why are ducks' feet so hilarious? 😂
Right?!? So funny! Thank you Sydney.

I do love this. And it’s a reminder of how humans can so easily disrupt the natural order of things.
A treat as always Karen! Can't think of a better early Christmas present for those near and dear! 🥰
Thank you Sandy

You have made my day
Thank you Malcolm
You write so beautifully. Your words match your beautiful, peaceful pictures.
Thank you Cali. I had a call with Mike Snowden and the phrase “visual poetry” was used. I want to experiment more with that idea!
What a perfect way to start the day!
Thank you Charlie

Nothing shameless about self-promotion!
Thank you for the quiet noise this morning.
Thank you Annie

Thank you Janisse. When you can’t find a word for something you can make it up right?
