I’ve developed something of an obsession with American goldfinches recently, our European ones look so different. They’re wonderful, too, but yours are so yellow!

All my favorite scientific discoveries are the ones where I hear it and say, ‘oh there’s a three thousand year old Sufi poem about just that!’ :)

Do you find that looking through the camera lens helps you practice the kind of mindfulness that allows you to drop beneath the noise?

Beautiful, Karen! I'm so happy for the transformation that came over you as you let go. "The peacefulness is always there..." yes! And that photo of the damselfly whirring its wings - wow!!

The world is so noisy sometimes! Leaf blowers and lawn mowers and motorcycles! Thanks for reminding me that I can still find the stillness amid the chaos.

I think Saint Hildegard of Bingen would qualify as a scientist-mystic. She was a theologian, botanist/herbalist, doctor (and Doctor of the Church), musician, to name just a few of her skills and gifts. To hear her music is to hear that universal music of the spheres you mention.

Yes! In 1999 I went to Europe on points I had accumulated from too much airline travel. Because I was using points that couldn't be used everywhere, I ended up in some places I might not have otherwise. (Also, I had no concept of where to go, lol.) Anyway, we ended up in this lovely little town called Mainz in Germany (which is very near Bingen). On Sunday, everything was closed except an exhibit in a church which happened to be on Hildegard of Bingen! So I learned of her then and she is fascinating.
