“Instructions for living a life: Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.” - Mary Oliver
Today’s post is all about one bird. One frozen little water chicken with giant, neon green dinosaur feet. I’m talking of course about a cootie friend! (American Coot) One particular cootie friend who walked the white carpet of frozen ice right in front of me for his glamour shots on a sub-zero day last week.
(This is where I admit that I missed the dive into the water, it was out of focus!)
I hope you have enjoyed this walk across the ice with my little coot friend. I could also title this post, “how I entertain myself during a long, foggy week”! Take good care friends!
PS - this is not the first time I have written about my love of coots. Here’s a post from 2022 about these sweet little birds:
This is so cool! I'm so glad you were here for this moment and captured it for all of us! You had me at ice on the coot's back, but then those FEET! Amazing
I think often about what a hummingbird would look like if crossed with a duck. I think I finally have my answer: a tiny, web footed missile with the foot proportions of your coot.
Do you have ouzels? Those unserious little birds who play in icy rivers all winter?
