Hello friends! It’s been a whirlwind of a week and without the structure of “ducks and ice” I have to remember how to do this again! March is not the most photogenic month of the year. Poor March! She certainly deserves our love. Here are a few recent moments:
Sunrise, March 4, 2024
We are almost back to a new moon, but the full moon two weeks ago really had my attention. Maybe because I hadn’t seen it in a while!
I kept noticing how the moon looked now, at the end of winter, and thinking how different it will look in just a few weeks.
It’s funny that once I would have thought this was a fall picture but now I really recognize it as a late winter photo! Plus that moon in the reflection.
It is so nice to see the brightly colored songbirds starting to brighten up the trees. (Meadowlark)
Our year-round residents like the chickadees are really busy now with mating activities and nest building.
The titmice are singing all the time. It’s amazing how loud a tiny bird can be!
Nothing screams “spring!” to me quite as clearly as the sound of red-winged blackbirds.
Had to include one more!
March has lots of clouds. Sometimes they look quite grand.
This trail gets really busy in songbird migration. Right now it is apparently a woodpeckers paradise as I heard and saw many of them on this walk.
This is how I look waiting for spring to fully arrive.
Thanks for being here friends! I’m looking forward to the weekend, I hope yours is everything you hope it will be.

I agree with you, the little Tufted Titmouse has an unbelievably loud song.
This time of year , I start my walk by turning on my Merlin-Cornell lab app, I double checked the Titmouse! (for anyone unfamiliar, hurry up and get this free app for your iPhone to identify birds and their calls).
Great intro to spring!
Except I’m scoping out the weather maps and hoping for a snow storm here in Vt.
The photo of the moon reflected in the pond is magical.
