Ducks don't build nests. I think they usually drop those eggs in the rock walls or I don't really know. They do lay a lot of eggs. I guess when you gotta lay the egg you gotta lay the egg? Thank you Sharon!

Your Spring is so far behind mine. Missouri sure had widely differing spaces.

We definitely do have widely differing spaces! And sometimes it takes me a couple weeks to get from taking photos to publishing photos, especially in spring when everything moves so fast.

how big are the bluebells? I want to hold them!

They are small! They grow maybe a foot or so off the ground and they are small flowers but in little "clumps". But there are SO many of them!

I'm read that ducks will just plop the eggs around anywhere.

"Oh mama duck. That is not the place to lay your egg! (literally right next to the gas pump on the dock, smh)"

Well apparently it's true! I mean, they walked right past me calm as could be and then I turned around and when I turned back there was the egg.

Yes, I can't remember the explanation except just sometimes they have to lay and egg. Usually it's by water. Maybe there was water by the pump and it gave her the urge. 🤣

Such incredible photos!!! I didn't even know there was such a thing as a Habitat Barge--that's so cool! I really appreciate not just the beautiful photographs you take and share with us, but also things about Nature and our world I would probably never know otherwise if not for you! Thank you so much, Karen! xoxo

What happened to mama duck’s egg?

Expand full comment

I don't actually know. There was nothing I could really do about it, no where to take it to, even if she would have let me. I'm guessing, to be honest, it probably blew off into the water given how windy it was.

I get it, sometimes we can’t do anything to “help”; I was just curious if there was more to that story.
