From Francis Bacon, “He that does not apply new remedies must expect new evils, for time is the great innovator.
Also from him is: Natural abilities are like natural plants, they need pruning by study.
Teresa of Avila- All things must come from its roots where it is planted. The tree that is beside the running water is fresher and produces more fruit.
In early May of this year, Vermont became the sixth state to officially designate a state mushroom: bear's head tooth, a white, long-toothed mushroom indigenous to the state. Most of the hoopla around it will happen in the fall when it emerges. Lots of schoolchildren involved. Also there was a quirky story in the NYT about the composer John Cage being instrumental in starting the New York Mycological Society, and in 1959 teaching a mushroom identification course at the New School.
Good ol' "Bartlett's Familiar Quotations," which is in the public domain, I believe, has been updated with 3,000 new quotes and over 700 newly-added authors. "There must be a pony in there somewhere!" ;-)
Hi Karen, I love your photos. I am just now entering the substack world and would love to help you with some poems. I am an unpublished poet working on my manuscript. Let me know if you'd like to collaborate. I can send some lines of my poems that may fit your theme. Thinking out loud here and happy to send some samples. Cheers, Stella
Wonderful Stella! I rarely know my theme until the last minute, but I like to use short poems, quotes, lines from poems in these drops of beauty posts for sure. I love this line.
You already quote my favorite authors so I don’t have anything new❤️🤷♀️. Love Mr. Cardinal ❤️👍 and all the bird pictures and yes.. I saw a heart in the clouds 👍❤️😍🥰

Karen, your photos, so full of awe & wonder, can break a heart wide open as one contemplates Climate Change and our witting or unwitting destructive behavior. To think we are ushering in a "Silent Spring" breaks my heart wide open. Indeed so wide that I must figure out the best way to take action. Thank you Karen.
The cardinal is stunning - you are very lucky to have them in your life.
Thank you - you are right!

Loved this. Felt like the cardinal at the end was showing up as a spirit for me even through email when I need to see him most. ♥️
I love that Laura. I personally really love that photo, it speaks to me too. I'll probably print it for my home.
Mushrooms are magical and mysterious life forms, need to learn more. And loved the butterflies.
They are and I don't know much yet either! Thank you Sharon.
