"To appreciate the beauty of a snowflake it is necessary to stand out in the cold.” - Aristotle
Hello friends! I asked for quotes and you guys delivered so many wonderful options! Thanks to Tierra for the one I used today. I am always open to more so please send or post any time you feel moved. I love reading them!
I knew the heat would come eventually and now it’s here, whether I’m ready for it or not. (I’m never ready for the heat.) I know so many are dealing with floods, storms, drought, and even more extreme heat. Whew. I chose the quote above because thinking about snowflakes and cold felt good today!
Here are some selected photos for today:
Sunrise, June 10, 2024 (the last of the cool mornings for a while I’m afraid)
My little frog friend is showing you proper breast stroke leg movements - there’s a reason they call them frog legs!
Rescued this guy from the road. Held my breath while two trucks drove over him but somehow he was between the tires and not under them. Hope he kept on going away from the road!
This week I learned the difference between a question mark butterfly (above) and a comma butterfly (below). Can you see the difference?
One of my favorite singers, the brown thrasher. I call him the R2D2 bird. Recording coming as soon as I can get it finished!
So happy to find a Bell’s vireo in the neighborhood. Every year since I’ve lived here I’ve found at two or three nesting pairs. When I hadn’t heard him by the beginning of June I was concerned but then today I even found a second nesting pair.
I start a lot of sentences this time of year with, “look, it’s an eastern kingbird chasing a …” - in this case turkey vulture.
And in this case it’s a crow. Yesterday I saw a hummingbird chasing (and bopping into) a house sparrow, that was a new one! Didn’t get that photo though.
I love wildflowers, and so do the bees!
Tree swallow catching breakfast on the wing.
Mrs. tree swallow
This bluebird dad was keeping a watchful eye on the youngsters.
Dew drops on wild grape leaves, a new “favorite thing”.
I find myself quite tired heading into the weekend, hoping for some extra rest. Wishing you whatever you most need this weekend!

Delightful. Hope you get some extra rest and sleep.
Love this quote, thank you!

I remain jealous of your ability to capture a swallow in flight!
The frog swimming demonstration brought me a lot of chuckles...
The rest...well, stunning as usual!
