Hello friends! It’s been a lovely week here and dry enough the lake has returned to normal levels. This time of year there is so much to catch my eye - plants, bugs, butterflies, and of course birds! Here are some photos for today:
Sunrise, June 21, 2024. Sometimes that sunburst over the clouds takes my breath away.
Catching a dragonfly in flight is such a fun challenge! Harder than swallows in flight, easier than butterflies in flight. I may not play video games, but I appreciate challenge levels!
I love when a wildflower seems to just magically appear with no others around. (I think this is phlox.)
I also love how it looks as it’s opening, just as the sun starts to warm it up.
I miss my blackberry bushes! I love that our little neighborhood park is full of them.
Honey locust seed pods are so cool.
According to PlantNet these are hickory nuts. I didn’t realize until I looked this up that pecans (my favorite nut!) are in the hickory family and grow in a “drupa” that looks much like this! I wish I could reach them.

Have to keep those feathers in tip-top shape to chase young ones around.
I can’t help but smile when I see a yellow warbler with his bright yellow feathers. I totally understand why the smiley face symbol is usually bright yellow!

As for your lovely wishes, unfortunately we have already started trying to make a difference today. Here in VT, we just received catastrophic rains. Flooding, roads and homes ,washed out, two human deaths, wildlife (no humans are counting). A great amount of damage. Exactly one year from our last destroyer. Climate change, a tough narrative to get used to.
