“Hope is a way to live. The power to make the world a kinder and more loving place. That is hope worth nurturing and practicing—every day with everyone we meet, human and moreso.” - Susan Tweit
Hello friends! I loved this quote from Sussan Tweit. You can find Susan’s beautiful substack, “Practicing Terraphilia” at this link .
I am super tired tonight, it’s been a challenging week. I’m looking forward to some rest and relaxation! Here are some photos for today:
Sunrise, August 21, 2024 - I think this looks like a loving gaze from an all-seeing spirit. It was a full moon week - and isn’t she lovely? If all we do is reflect the light that shines on us, it is enough. Green herons are usually hiding from me or flying high overhead, but this one flew in and landed in the tree next to me! I’m pretty sure he’s saying, “hey, take my photo while I pose here for you in perfect light because I might never do it again!” Long, fluffy neck, I’m so tall! Changed my mind, I’m so short! In case you didn’t get all the good shots, let me fly right in front of you. Goodbye friend! Come back anytime! I often wonder why the barn swallows chase each other around like fighter pilots. I’m glad they do though, it’s fun to try and photograph! Baltimore oriole came right down in front of me! I asked him if he’d pop up in the light for a moment and he kindly obliged. So far Mrs. red-shouldered hawk has not obliged for photos. She flies away when I come close, even if it’s still dark. One of these days she’ll decide I’m ok! This was a new flower to see growing near the pond. AI says it’s a blue cardinal flower. I thought it looked like a wild snap dragon. I’m not sure what these yellow flowers that grow along the edge of the water are and the AI identification I’m pretty sure is incorrect. I am sure they are lovely! My little ruby-throated friend is still at it. I’ve seen at least three chasing each other around at the feeder. Wishing everyone deeply restoring rest this weekend.
It may have been a rugged week, but you certainly were gifted with some amazing shots! The green heron series is just phenomenal. Hope you get some rest this week (and lots more goodies to share!)
Excellent captures of the Green Heron
