Those barn swallows look like their auditioning for parts in an Edward Hopper painting. Beautifully moody.

Karen, your words and images today struck a chord with me. As I read certain comments I could clearly hear your connection, your sense of community, with these birds! Old hat? Of course. No news for you and your followers. I have felt my own sense of a growing connection with Nature, especially birds. Do you suppose the Ruby throated hummingbird was ever told to put nothing smaller than his elbow in his ears? A perfect capture! As someone else said, “What a sunrise!” We lack the openness that you enjoy around your home and the lake. I hope your week end is joyous!

Thank you Gary. I love that you can feel that growing connection! That elbow comment made me laugh. And yes, we are blessed with openness here! I never thought of it that way. Thank you!

The hummingbird scratching is my favorite. Candid camera, when they aren’t posing.

I still boggles my mind how those tiny creatures can fly from Florida to the Yucatán peninsula over open water. They do it in different age and gender cohorts at different times so the whole fleet doesn’t get wiped out by an unanticipated storm.

Sure, we’re sophisticated and don’t believe in things that seem almost miraculous, so I’ll leave it to that.

It is miraculous! I tiny creature that normally eats all day can store up enough energy to do that? I mean, dragonflies and butterflies migrating is equally miraculous. Thanks Switter.

Another delightful collection! I can't explain it but the turkey vultures on the electric tower struck me. Sort of a dystopian kind of thing. Weird, I know.

Thank you Sue. It is a little dystopian, every year it strikes me as worthy of note.

What is that key???? I can tell it's something floating on water.

But what?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it might be fish eggs.
