Hello friends! Made it through another work week. It’s warm and dry and I’m hoping for some rain and a nice fall cold front for the equinox on Sunday! Meantime, here are some photos for today:
Sunrise, September 17, 2024 - we’ve finally had a few clouds in the sky but still no rain.
The color of September is yellow.

My ruby-throated hummingbird friends are still at it and I am here for the show as long as it lasts.
I know they are named for the ruby throats, but the emerald green is just as stunning.
I was loving that big full moon this week!
Water is endlessly fascinating for me. Just look at all the shades and shapes! Nothing in nature is a single color.
It’s amazing how the reflections change from moment to moment.

The crows are my year-round friends and they are always so busy in the morning.
This one confused me for a while! Not the best picture because he was hiding in the shadows, but a better birder than I helped me identify this as a juvenile mockingbird. I’m so happy to see mockingbirds! They used to be really common in the park and the last few years I’ve hardly seen any.
Mrs. red-shouldered hawk still doesn’t want to have her picture taken.
Doesn’t she just look curious?
The saying “curiosity killed the cat” is all wrong - curiosity will save you time and again. Curiosity keeps me poking my nose out from behind whatever I want to hide behind and continuing to explore life. Stay curious friends!

Yes, yellow and orange are fall colors. The golden hours. Alas, our hummingbirds have fled the feeder, but the second batch of quailings can fly now.
Is it usual for your hummingbirds to stay around this late in the year?
