“I want to fill the void with buckets full of real…” - Julia Fehrenbacher
Hello friends! Thinking about all my human and feathered friends who have weathered another massive storm. I’ve been thinking about how I can best serve when I’m not the one in the storm, and I hope it’s by holding the heart space of calm, joy, wonder, and curiosity.
Here are some favorites for today:
Sunrise, October 8, 2024 - the fog has been glorious this week.
Sunrise, October 7, 2024 - the kingfisher who’s been hanging out in the cove every morning was kind enough to photo-bomb this one!
Turkey vulture had found a prime spot and he wasn’t moving for anything.
I think this look means, go ahead, take close-ups of my feathers.
So I did - feathers are really an engineering marvel. Humans have invented amazing things but we still can’t come close to nature.
When the Franklin’s gulls come in to play…
…the attract some “fans”, like this Cooper’s hawk. Also known as, “he who makes all the gulls take off.”
But then the gulls come back.
Caspian terns: Powerful body, long and elegant wings, a carrot for a bill, and a screech that echoes all the way across the lake. What’s not to love?
Blue jays are among the fall noise makers. I like listening to them practice their red-tailed hawk imitations.
Black feathers in the light of the rising sun are astonishing.
Somebody dropped a feather.
“Hey friend, I’d like that buoy you’re standing on.”
“Hey friend, this buoy is taken!”
They really do dance across the water. I love watching the choreography in the morning.
Somewhere there’s an alpha to go with this omega.
In May I planted a dozen echinacea plants. This week one of them finally managed one little bloom, way down by the ground. The only bloom I’ve seen. It’s hope for next year though!

Your echinacea plants needed a whole season to adjust to their new surroundings, you should see more bloom next summer. Nursing a few along myself.
