I’ve been observing two sets of kingbird parents tending to their nests (safely and from a respectful distance that puts no stress on the parents). One pair of eastern kingbirds and another pair of western kingbirds. Kingbirds seem to nest in close proximity to humans, though I almost think they have an invisibility superpower because most non-birders probably don’t know they exist. The nests I’m watching are in a church parking lot and next to a busy walking trail near an apartment complex - not exactly “deep in nature”.
Another delightful and informative post! I love how the different types mirror human personality traits. The "Type A's" vs the more laid-back parents (who even add a treat for the kids in the form of wild blackberries!) :-) Your R.A.I.N. concept (which I am going to look into) reminds me of the four-fold path of the religious order I used to belong to -- The Order of Julian of Norwich: Await - Allow - Accept - Attend. Nature certainly sets the standard for living in right order, pardon the pun!
I went and looked up The Order of Julian of Norwich - it felt so - kind. For certain a part of me longs for that kind of simple, contemplative life. (Simple - not easy!)
I love detail of your observations and descriptions. Actually felt like learned something about kingbirds! And, as always, the photos are beautiful.
<3 Thank you Oriah!

Wonderful people and a wonderful retreat center at their monastery in WI. Definitely the real deal when it comes to living the contemplative life.
Thank you Lauren! That sounds exactly like RAIN, the way Tara Brach teaches it!
Keen observation that spreads beyond birdwatching. Love it!
