A wonderful meditation on this blustery morning in southeast Arizona--if I listen to the wind, I can hear the ice moving...

Really liked the segue into how the metaphor of the ice helped you reflect on your internal state! And, as always, lovely photos!

Loved this piece Karen! Also really like your audio section. You have a really soothing voice. Have you considered dubbing in low music in the background? Do you ever record audio when you are out and about?

Thanks for sharing the beauty. D

Thank you! I have a lot to learn about audio. I just won free access for 6 months to an editing tool called 'Descript' so I'm hoping to learn some things and try it out. Music is tricky because of copyright issues. I don't record a lot of audio - but I might start trying it. I really think I need to use my phone for it because my camera doesn't do a great job tbh.

That's cool, sometimes I see people with external mics on their cameras, like a shotgun mic, but I don't know how much that improves the quality. It definitely looks clunky!

I went from a Nikon D750 to a Sony Cybershot RX-10 last year, out of laziness I guess haha. Will probably switch back. What is your go-to camera?

Yeah, I have an external mic but I honestly never remember to take it with me. And it is a little clunky to put it on all the time. I'm using a Nikon D500. I'm daydreaming a little about whether an upgraded iPhone might be useful for some things (like sunrise), but I'm still unsure becuase my current iPhone which does great for landscape is terrible at sunrise. BUT it is better at video and audio. It seems to be more able to filter out background noise and wind and still pick up the other sounds.

I went out to our summer cottage today and we had a sauna - which was lovely - but the ice is still so thick, probably the thickest I’ve seen it here since I moved here. It was sunny, so small bits of ice and snow were melting but on the water it’s pretty solid.

I’m interested in the Substack classes - are they via the main Substack page?

🙂☀️🌱

I would love to be there when that ice starts to sing! This was the "Substack Go" program they offered in February. This Friday is the last day.

Great edition and loved the audio! Also happen to be a huge fan of Sara Bareilles, so glad we have that in common too. She did a fantastic version of Dock of the Bay. Terrific photos!

We seem to be in complete synchronicity right now. After enduring [sic] six weeks of immense anxiety and tension that has resulted in some unprecedented high blood pressure, I am finding ways in which the ice is melting. I have learned that I cannot be the "wave" that beats and breaks the ice into submission. I go inward in meditation and breath work, gently warming the ice and reminding "it" of its essential flow and plasticity that has been captured and imprisoned. It's more about "letting" the ice release its energy of flow, reassuring it that it's safe and OK to let go and let be. It's safe to move, change, express rather than stay "blocked."

Ah, indeed, I cannot be that either. I found a new meditation app called "ten percent happier" and it is REALLY helping me. It's about the 3rd one I've tried but this one seems to be helping the most.
