Killdeers are fascinating to watch, although I often feel my heart in my throat when I see them. My office is located in an industrial park. Down the street killdeers protect their nest in the gravel of a parking lot with massive trucks rumbling by. Their resilience and focus always inspire and re-center me. I’m glad you were rewarded with a sight of the eaglets, and that you shared the experience with us! I hope you recover from the fall quickly, Karen. (Beautiful photo of a meadowlark!)

So sorry to hear about your fall, these accidents always so sudden and unnerving - what! what just happened!? Hoping your injuries will heal quickly. I definitely understand your dislike and unease with how the 4th of July has evolved over time into such a raucous disturbing harsh affair. It seems I hear more and more people remark that they don't enjoy the celebration as much anymore. Your videos were so interesting to watch. Thank you

So sorry about your spill, Karen. Hope you'll be back to normal soon. But I love that you were looking at a meadowlark when you fell .... a darn good reason to fall, if ever I heard one!

I loved your videos of the eaglets and the Killdeer. Thank you. I agree with you about the fireworks - always too much and they frighten animals and people. I hope you heal quickly. I'm sorry to hear about your fall. Falls can happen so fast. Take care.

Ooooo, watching eaglets never gets old! Love that little do-si-do they do in the nest. Thanks for the video! And the killdeer! Don’t you just love how that broken wing shifts side to side? I’m no fan of big booms either. Here in Hawai’i New Year’s is a MUCH bigger deal than the Fourth, so no booms here yet, though there will be a few. But New Year’s, oh my. Look out the window near midnight and the whole horizon is lit up end to end. I spend the time comforting the cat. Sending good healing wishes for your bruises!

Yes to all of this (other than the New year's booms). Thank you Priscilla!

I cant believe you fell into a hole! and I am so glad that you are okay. wow. how shocking. this week I fell over my bike when i braked too hard in front of the policemen idling in his car at the stop sign. i wasn't going fast so i'm also okay, although a black eye sounds pretty well ouch. but i did feel like a six year old. with my arse in the air. and so embarrassed for a moment. thats the moment im remembering, moving unexpectedly into a place in my body i dont often go (with obvious reason) and how when i was young i often went there.

Im so glad the bald eagles are having success with their offspring this year.

and of course I immediately thought of the poem, by Portia Nelson, There’s a Hole in My Sidewalk: The Romance of Self-Discovery, about falling into a hole which is so metaphorical.

Oh man, I'm so sorry you feel over your bike! That is shocking - as was falling! Thanks for the poem, it's been a while since I heard it and it's so appropriate!

I totally share your disgust for July 4th. Hope you have some homoeopathic calendula cream for your bruises -- it's miraculous how well it works! As always, thank you for the gorgeous images and videos.

Loved the videos and pictures… I remember the killdeer from the parking lot at the pool at Turners. We don’t like this holiday either… my dog is terrified of the fireworks… it is better here in Texas than it was back home in Missouri. Hope you are feeling better from your fall soon… sending luv and hugs ❤️😍

Ah, that's so interesting that I don't remember killdeer from Turners! Funny what we do or don't pay attention too. I hope it goes easy for you and Chubbers.

Yes, Chubbers hides underneath Leslie’s desk in her room…Frida hides under my bed at the apartment… will be interesting if we hear any and her reaction 🤷‍♀️❤️🐶🐱

Yes since I was driving/parking the cat out by the tennis courts I would try to avoid them….they were toward the edge if the gravel away from the pool🤷‍♀️

I'm right there with you on distaste for all the "booming and bombing" of this holiday. Like you, I wish it were more dignified and reflective of the gifts and challenges of our precious democracy. As with Memorial Day, I think there are more respectful ways to mark the occasion than with cook-outs and frightening noise. I, too, will be donning my earbuds or headphones and probably watching "John Adams" on HBO for the umpteenth time, remembering the great cost and courage our ancestors paid for our freedom. Have a blessed Fourth, KD, and watch out for those gopher holes!

One good thing about the fourth which I didn't figure out how to put in is the music! I do like listening to the Boston Pops Orchestra.
