Your beautiful words are so soothing in a wild, crazy world. And don't dare stop posting your exquisite photographs, they are silver threads to beauty that is vital for our health and wellbeing.
These are beautiful pictures. Most of us can't directly help in the conflict with Ukraine but we can live our best lives and show our humanity and kindness in our own places and communities. This is your contribution. Thank you.
a friend asked me 'what does it mean to be a woman?' she was collecting answers from the women in her life to give to her then adolescent daughter. After a few days I heard an answer: Just Listen. One of the most profound things I've ever heard.
This is beautifully written. Last night my husband and I watched the news about the people of Ukraine fleeing their homes and arriving at the borders of nearby countries. We saw images of people helping each other. Giving food and offering places for the refugees to stay. The images were both heartbreaking and heartwarming. The fear, the loss, the terror side by side with helping, caring, great acts of love and courage. I found myself weeping. That felt like the most natural response and felt like a form of prayer in its own way. Tears can be prayers. May this war cease. May the people of Ukraine be safe once again. Thank you, Karen, for the beauty and inspiration you share each day!
I agree, I see so much of the best of humanity. I find myself just struggling with watching this and knowing the people it is happening to are no different than me, than my family, than the children in my neighborhood.
Thank you for sharing your heart as well as your photography, both of which are simply gorgeous.
Thank you

this poem was in my feed today from Feb 27 2014 and it seems to answer and mirror your post beautifully:
The Great Listening by Lyn Dalebout
The animals know
when to come to us
because they are
knowingly linked
by the web of listening.
The miracle motions
of birds flocking
turning left, turning right,
they’ve not forgotten
how to listen
to the Great Listening.
The Great Listening
goes on beneath our feet,
above our heads,
inside our hearts.
And the animals swirl
in delightful fashion.
They seem to move
before the wind moves them,
as if they knew the future
and were bringing it back to us.
They let themselves be moved.
They hear the Great Thoughts
circling this Earth,
the larger language
circling this Earth.
They transmit messages
because they’re listening
without thinking
and we can learn from them
by watching movements
scribbled in the Earth,
above our heads,
inside our hearts.
The animals know
when to come to us
when we are listening
without thinking.
Like them
we are linked by listening
without thinking
linked by listening.
