I love your deep look at the behavior of this little duck, sharing a story that most of us will never see! The meditation on the value of sameness versus individuality is relatable and timeless.
Karen, this, as always, is so beautiful. And what a profound teaching. It reminded me of Pigeon, the Owl, and of so many other sweet beings who, against the odds, find their way. There's so much to learn. Thank you.
Very nice. Thank you so much. A reminder also to observe deeply and pay attention to the details of the world around us sometimes. I appreciate your work and your eye, mind, lens and pen!
So sweet! Loved this one, Karen. I somehow imagined someone -- you, me, all of us-- reading this story to a child. Such an important lesson for them to learn. And you told it so well.
Good question. Wood ducks leave their eggs in a cavity and then the little ones have to jump out and find their way to mom (as I understand it). I once saw a whole line of tiny wood ducks walking across a road with no adults in sight. So did the female lay one egg and then abandon that area? Or did something else happen? Who know?

Thank you. I love it as a children’s story.
Wondering what happened to the wood duck's own folks?
