Beautiful writing, Karen. Been reading several books about trees (Understory right now), but especially stories about how trees are more present and interconnected to the natural world, even "sentient" than previously believed. Haskell's The Songs of Trees, and Logan's Sprout Lands are recent examples. It's definitely Nature, both experiencing it and reading about it, that gives me roots.
One way I stay grounded and “true to my roots” is daily walking. My goal is to walk two miles a day. As I go along I practice being in the moment, breathing consciously, observing everything around me. Sometimes I snap photos of what I see on my walks. Then I share on my social media with my tag, “everywhere I look I see something beautiful.” Walking has saved me during many stressful times in life including this pandemic.
Karen, love Roots! Thinking of my Qi Cong instructor, who before a movement would ask her students to plant our feet so they feel as tree roots planted firmly. Appreciated your walk though as trees become part of the area around, shade falls far from the tree depending on the sun, leaves blowing into a larger area then the tree could ever cover. So goes our own lives, moving though the community & world beyond. What we do in our space & how it flows beyond our communities. Thank you for sharing your photos & writings. Blessings & Peace.
Love this Karen, the connections and parallels you make really resonate. For me, daily rituals are grounding and sustaining - long nature walks, brewing and sipping hot strong tea, meditation, journaling, yoga, dance ✨
