I just recently became aware of and learned about trout lilies. They are so delicate and fairy like but probably would not grow well in the hot into the triple digit summer temperatures were I live.

Where do you live Jan?

I'm in the long hot valley of northern California in the middle of the state so no rain from about April to October. We do get a too brief glorious Spring but a too long summer.

That is a dry location! When I read about trout lilies it said they liked bogs so yeah, I wouldn't think there would be too many in the nor-cal valley.

During the rainy season it sometimes feels like we have bogs popping up overnight along with vernal pools and marshy areas expanding along the rivers and coastal areas but alas, they all retreat as summer advances. They would probably grow fairly well in backyard water gardens but those are practical anymore with water restrictions of only once a week watering.

Wow, you pix are definitely the best. Comparisons are odious, but your pix really are the best. That trout lily at the top makes me feel a little bit faint when I look at it.

Glorious! Thank you for the reminder to pay attention because there is always something new to see and learn. And knowing that trout lily colonies can live so long is amazing. In the Rocky Mountain west, a related species has yellow flowers and is called glacier lily because they bloom so early the bud stalks heat their way through the snow.

Thank you Susan. That's so cool about the bud stalks heating their way through the snow!

What an incredibly beautiful post!!! My devotion today was on gratitude, and although I try to practice that every day, I'm trying to be more mindful of all the things I have to be thankful for today. This is a huge one for me!!! Thank you so much, Karen! Xoxox

Lol, well my brain doesn't have an off switch so I just try to occupy it (such as with a camera).
