Beautiful writing Karen--and those stunning images! Especially the junco. I see we both have winter sparrows on the mind this week...thanks so much for sharing yours.
Hi Karen, Beautiful poem and pictures. Thank you for sharing. I'm still using a iphone 6 (no upgrading here yet for me...let's see how long I can do with his phone. HA!) so unable to download the app or chat features. I may be missing out but I'm okay with email and using my computer, it keeps my screen time more in check anyways. Thanks for asking and good to see others responses. Thank you again.
Thankyou for your gratitude! I am also grateful for your newsletter and to under the sheet electric blankets that make flying into bed an ecstatic experience.
I’m not sure about the chat feature- I am also contemplating a version of ask the herbalist for my newsletter as well as being very aware of how much I might want to pay attention to the device.... either way I think having some sort of goal around chatting helps connectivity.
And I love the gallery view especially suited to a series of shots, it helps tell the story, while your beautiful one of shots do well on their own :)
I like the way pictures are posted now… with my eyesight and viewing on my phone I can see details better than in gallery post… but I guess in gallery I could click on each one and still see the details easily ?🤷🏻♀️
So grateful for so many things…. Family, health, freedom, a nice safe place to live, books, nature, my pets, and Skydog Sanctuary (sanctuary for wild mustangs) and wild horse photographers…and so much more…❤️🙏
Substack is already taking up a lot of my time that I'd rather spend writing, so, no to Chats and no to cross posting. The gallery view is lovely every once in a while, when I click on each image on my desktop it gets blown up, and it means I can admire more (four) song sparrows.
Here in New Mexico it's also way too cold for this time of the year, but your poem and your beautiful pictures tell me I should stop bitching and enjoy what is there.
Hi. Lots of new features. Sadly, Android users don't have the chat facility yet so you'll be excluding a lot of people if you go for it now. I love the "mentions" functionality and have used it each week. But the cross post - I don't really want to send additional emails to my list. It would have to be something really good for me to send this to everyone.
Oh that's good to know, I didn't know it wasn't in the Android app. I'm not inclined to use it yet to be honest. And that's how I feel about the cross posts too! I like referencing them in my writing more than sharing them directly - but I can see it if maybe you're a guest on someone else's newsletter for instance.
Karen, for what it's worth I don't intend to pursue the chat feature anytime soon, either from my newsletter or participating in others. Or the cross posting thing because I don't really know how it works or care to look into it, heh.
As for gallery view, I looked at yours in the app (which I almost never use) and it displays the pictures just like it would if there wasn't a gallery view. In my browser gmail, it displays it like it does here. I don't have the gmail app installed anywhere so I can't tell you what it looks like there. I think aesthetically, throwing in the occasional gallery view looks good and I might consider using it just like you have here.
That's how I'm feeling about chat at the moment too - though I think there are newsletters it's perfect for. The cross-posting thing is easy (on any free post (not paid) you view on the web or in your email, you can cross-post right from there). I would want to use it extremely judiciously though, if I used it at all. I think I like referencing posts in my newsletter more - but who knows in time.
Also wondering about the chat feature, which Substack is really pushing, but don't have any clear answers. I always love discovering new newsletters, though! I'm grateful for your amazing photos this cold, November morning.
It’s blowing a gale this morning in Annapolis, MD. Loved waking up and reading your story! Especially the gratitudes. In this “angry” world, it’s a joy to have people like you share your joys and give thanks. I am grateful for you and the beauty you bring to us! As far as the other Substack features, none of the new ones would add anything more for me! Peace and Love, Dan
Warm hug accepted!

Thank you Ken - tis the season for sparrows!

That's actually impressive!! :) Thank you Julie.
LOL...thank you Karen, I hope I can get a few more years out of it. (crossing my fingers.) :)

This is making me feel better about my hesitance to the new features! Sometimes I worry I'm just old and set in my ways, lol. Thank you!

Thanks Robyn! Yeah, they are really pushing it and I've seen a number of folks turn it on - but I'm not sure it's my thing.

Thank you Dan!
there is a song that reminds me of your newsletter and the way you depict nature and your surroundings. the song is called Breathless by Nick Cave.
Thank you! That's a beautiful song (just looked it up).
it is a compliment by the way. 😊
