Very nice post, one that I could use this week. Nature is definitely one of my medicines, I know you can relate to that. And solitude is important for me, a time to reflect and regroup. But that being said, time with my loved ones is equally important as I move through any difficult time. My chiropractor mentioned this week, that we only heal when we sleep. I keep thinking about that and it ties in with solitude, a time for the body and mind to rest from outside forces. 💟
So glad you are finding relief from pain and a way to listen to your body. it can be so difficult to figure out not only what its saying but how to talk back. Pain is designed to be a reminder rather than a lifestyle! I am also grateful for the beautiful words from Notes from an acupuncturist and very happy that they have returned from their rest.
As a herbalist, what is your medicine is the first question we ask of the plants we use and sit with. and they tell us in so many ways. It is a practice that i love and one that gives me so much, sitting in this question especially with beings and situations where the answer is in more than words, where i have to use all my senses to listen, where i have to trust my feelings if i want to understand.
Keep asking the birds, they are telling you all the time ;)
I love this Natasha, and it shows in how you are with plants. I love this as a practice - both with my body but also with nature. And yes, learning the language of feeling takes time, I am sometimes way too impatient with it.
That is so true about your Dad.. I love his hugs❤️👍
You are surrounded by healers and the healing world…. You have created such a wonderful life for yourself with your wonderful creative outlets.
Walking in nature… mostly at nature park in Blue Springs north of I70 (I forget the name) was my healing place to calm and also Unity grounds… I haven’t found that here in Texas🤷🏻♀️
Thank you Sharon. Burr Oak Woods might have been the park in Blue Springs? I hope you can find yourself a nature place down there. Maybe fall is the time to look!
I love this question- and, of course, the essence of what is medicine for us is both what we need to receive for healing and what we can offer that supports others. And, we can have more than one kind of medicine. Recently revisited Rilke's comment about solitude in relationship- "I hold this to be the highest task of a bond between two people: that each shall stand guard over the solitude of the other." Solitude is one of my medicines.
Interesting that you cite Rilke, Oriah. Karen’s comment about not seeking an immediate answer reminded me of his advice in “Letters to a Young Poet:” Live the questions! ❤️
Thank you Oriah - and oh yes, I think we must all have and receive multiple kinds of medicine. I love solitude as medicine! I wouldn't have thought of that. Yes yes. You shared that medicine with me, I never knew solitude before you helped me see how beautiful it could be.
I love this reframe of what it means to be a healer...because we all are in our own ways. Simply being around other people and sharing conversation, food and laughter is medicine for me lately.
Thank you for sharing! I believe that anything generously and lovingly offered to the world is medicine. Your beautiful images and reflections are medicine for me!
I know as a spiritual director and "anam cara" I am called to a "medical practice" of listening, both internally and externally, in order to help other learn to listen to their deeper truths. Side note: Perhaps Mamma Cooper hawk's medicine is mentoring. Rather than merely nurturing and "doing for" her children, she is a role model and way-shower of how to not merely survive but also thrive. "Watch and learn."
Lovely, thoughtful post and your photos are so beautiful! Happy to hear you are on the mend Karen---hoping your road to recovery continues. xx
Oh, and so glad to hear you are on the mend. Keep up the great work! 💟

I love that definition, I think that's right! I love your posts, I have so many saved, and I'm really looking forward to listening to your podcasts!
Your weekly offerings are very healing for me! 💞
Thank you Kerri, and yours are for me!
Your photos and words are definitely medicine for me. ❤️
Thank you Robyn! I love words as medicine, stories as medicine and thinking of it this way.
