Love that you got to see a Mississippi kite up close❤️😍👍. And thx for sharing about learning to trust thru happy times instead of only thru hard times… something to really ponder🥰👍🙏
Triple wow! such a feast of incredible photos, Karen. Thank you! I loved the kites and the terns, especially. And the cuckoo reminded me of its near relative, the Asian koel that I used to hear in Hong Kong. It sings every night for several months in the spring and summer. It has a wonderfully evocative song that is best heard from a distance. But you wouldn't want one on a tree outside your bedroom window.
Thanks for sharing your abundance! It's balm to my soul here in drought-browned northern New Mexico. And that yellow-billed cuckoo was a delight to see--we call them "rain birds" here because they often call before the summer thunderstorms. Enjoy the abundance of migration and spring!
That's interesting about the cuckoos! Wishing I could send some of our now over-abundant rain to you. I'm amazed by all the little wildflowers you post that manage to grow anyway.
Oh, jeez .. words fail to express the joy and uplift I feel from this post. As always, thanks so much Karen! I dearly love indigo buntings and that singing photo is perfect. Also ... the kites ... WOW. Also love the anchoring practice. I will remember that.
Wow what a beautiful post! Thank you Karen. I was wondering if you have a “spirit” or totem bird? Mine is clearly the Mockingbird. The understated little beauty shows up in a very personal way for me and sings to my soul. Is there one that speaks to you? Beside the Cooties! Lol
Thank you Dan! I meditate on different birds, or creatures, when they show up in my world. If you walked around my house you'd probably decide it was either a heron (in varying forms) or an owl. But I've never thought of it as a single entity.
I agree Karen! Heading out every morning to walk the woodland trail around the shoreline. Merlin App on. Anticipation is joyful. And at the very same time , I feel lucky to be able step outside my door with my favorite beings, one human, the other, dog. Truly fortunate to be alive and filled with wonder.
Karen, here's a real thing ... I use your posts as one of my anchors!!!! I am always more centered by spending the time to take-in the earthly beauty you share along with your narratives. I sometimes hold your posts knowing that they will lift my spirit later in the day when I may need that. The treasures found in your posts are so numerous! I truly thank you.
These images are amazing Karen. I have never seen a Mississippi Kite before - what an amazing-looking bird. I do hope Momma Possum was able to get shelter before the rains!
Your “Art” draws us in, your “musings” delightful, your self-awareness admirable and your takeaways instructive. There must be “grants” available so you can pursue your creativity unconcerned with the monthly bills? Or is it the balance of a “real world” existence that keeps your photographic passion so keen? Thanks for sharing Karen…

Thanks! The desert is more resilient that we realize, or so I remember each time we go months without rain....
That was a special set of encounters, the "human" and the birds. You really did get to see amazing sights. So many species!
Thank you Michael!

Bird miracles. The kite was grand. Such great aerodynamic views. The science of flight right there.
Indeed. Thank you.
Karen these are extraordinary! The Mississippi Kite is a new one for me. Love them all!
Thank you David

Exquisite photos, Karen!!! I love them all! Were you nervous at all when the kite was flying so close to you?!
Thank you Roxy - no, I wasn't nervous. The kites were focused on something in that field.

Thank you Clark. I wish such a thing existed, it would be lovely! So far I haven't found that path.
