Karen, you have a precious gift. Thanks for sharing.

Our quail babies are flying now, and there’s time for another batch with this weather. It’s two happy times per year when it happens.

Lovely images! A third dove pair have nested in my patio basket this year, a record year, so much fun to watch! 💚

We had to stop and wait for about 20 turkey hens to cross the road this morning, but they were the only traffic we met on our way to work.

I want to live in your world! 💚

So do I! After being a wanderer and wayfarer in distant lands most of my life, when I finally was broken enough, I went home to the place my wife and I discovered and built a house on when we were just kids. After 25 years away, we are now well and truly at home.

In late winter, our lawn is overrun by deer and elk. In the evening, we might have 60 or more elk around our house, sometimes clomping on our deck and staring into our uncurtained windows. As the seasons pass, there are always different squatters. Sometimes eagles (we once had two on our room at one time, but they left a big mess), always quail, turkeys, and meadow larks. On a shaded part of our road, a few ruffed grouse stand absolutely still as we watched them.

It is a good place to live.

Sometimes, when we are young, we make decisions that seem almost miraculous when we are older and in need of small miracles.

As always, I am uplifted, as 'dark places' are illumined by the waxwing.

Question: how is the rain related to the appearance of dragonflies?

Thank you. It seems like dragonflies need water. Last fall and into this spring we were in a drought and I saw a lot fewer dragonflies. Now with all the rain so many more (plus they are so pretty to photograph with dew on the wings). I suspect it's because they lay their eggs in water? (at least I think they do?)

Sending you dragonfly peace and calming energy…and gentle waves to surf…
