Great shot of the Great Blue in ‘full frontal’. And the Indigo Bunting, just lovely. You are in Montana right? Just wondering where your Loons go after April. They arrived here in VT about two weeks ago. I believe ‘our’s’ winter in the northeastern coastal waters . We have only one species, the Common Loon. We have a three season camp in northern VT. I know Loons, once they select a breeding lake, return to the same lake every year. Each year we’ve owned camp, within the first couple of hours of unpacking the truck for our first opening of the season, without fail, a Loon shows up about 25 ft off shore and ‘hangs’ out for about an hour watching us drag boxes to the front door. A complete reversal of human watching Bird. ( Except the Loon did not have a camera or Binos ) I definitely have a feeling it is the same breeding pair. They are extremely inquisitive and tend to visit often. If it is at all possible, I would like to send you an incredible, short video taken a few days ago ,(not Loon) as a thank you for your wonderful posts. Let me know where to send it. If not, I totally understand!
I’m in Missouri, I think the loons go to places like Minnesota and central Canada, but I don’t know for certain. We normally only see common loons as well, though on very rare occasions, usually in the fall, I have seen pacific loons and red throated loons. I love this story of your friend loons at the camp! Please send the video!! Karen@opendoordreming.com.
That misty morning shot with the birds on the wires brought back memories of Judy Collins singing Leonord Cohen's Bird on a Wire .... And then a memory of him singing his song, too. Each perfect in their own way. Always loved the last line of "🎵 Like a bird on a wire ..... like a drunk in a midnight choir ... I have tried in my way .... to be free-e-e!" May your weekend be free too Karen. Free as a Great Blue chasing away geese with his Watusi dance! 🤗
You wrote “It’s funny how my expectations of spring migration have not matched reality!” So true with the weather in Oregon, it has unnerved me this year. Might Mother Nature be sending a message?
Actually I’m in Missouri! I think nature is always sending us messages. The climate change messages ceased being subtle some time ago. I did live in Seattle through a big El Niño year, I seem to remember it being fairly dramatic.
😍❤️👍
Thank you Sharon!
Lovely, all. Thanks for the rain photos to help me remember what it's like. And I love that GBH doing a porcupine imitation!
Thank you Susan!
A student and I spent an entire lunch period watching and listening to
an indigo bunting last week. Magic birds.
I love that!
Absolutely love you, your spirit, your birds, your photos and captions, and your commenters!
Thank you Michael! And I love every person who comments here, it really expands the joy for me!

Beautiful images Karen. I like those two photos of the Great Blue Heron 'persuading' the two Canada Geese that this spot is now taken. ;)
Thank you Neil. lol, herons don’t persuade, they direct.
Such awesome photos!!! That tree makes me think of the Ents from Lord of the Rings! :D
Thank you Roxy. Maybe it’s a baby Ent? Ents were one of my favorite LOTR beings.
Mine, too!💚
