Lovely as always, Karen. A glorious trudge through the snow--I'm so envious. I've been watching for our "rare" white-throated sparrow, but I haven't seen him in some time. Just lots of those fluffy juncos!
Lovely musings accompanying lovely photos! Beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed this post. I felt the peace and serenity of your morning walk. I can relate to your feeling of "trying too hard" sometimes.
The wonderful quote from Mary Oliver reminded me of a quote from the poem "Late Fragment" by one of my favorite writers, the late Raymond Carver: "And did you get what you wanted from this life, even so? I did. And what did you want? To call myself beloved, to feel myself beloved on the earth." It's a wonderful thing to know that after all our striving, path-following, and path-finding our belovedness is right here, right now. Your lovely shots illustrate this truth so well.
Tonight I’ve been working on logistics plans for my upcoming PCT hike and decided I needed a break, so I decided to read your post and loved it. Just to assure Mary Oliver, I will walk, but I will not repent, because I can’t think of what I should repent about. Taking a long, multi-month hike? I think not!
Thanks so much, Karen, for lovely images and guiding words! I saw your post early this morning, then my day got away from me. As most of my day was spent indoors, I felt very fortunate to come back to your post with a settled mind and an open heart! All the best to you.
Thank you Corey! I will check it out. I am about 6 months behind on reading Substack posts, lol, but I hope to catch various ones some of the time. So many lovely writers!
Thank you for that respite in the sunny snow country. When we lived in Truckee, we'd have blizzards that would last for days. When the sun finally came out and we had dug ourselves out of our houses, walking around in the sunshine and finding tracks in the snow was an absolutely joy. It reminded us of why we lived there. Thank you for your version of a walk in the snow.
The snow used to get several feet high, but I don't know about that now. Truckee has warmed up considerably over the past couple of decades. When we moved out of the house there on January 13th, it was raining. What a mess.
Loved the floating ice sculptures ❤️😍👍. And the cute sparrows and Juncos❤️🐶👍. You certainly got your exercise for the day… that’s tough walking thru deep snow❤️😍🥰
Karen, thanks for being our ground breaker! We would not know what was happening on your lake at dawn in the midst of winter, without you! I am so very appreciative of this quiet and beautiful walk! Love all of it!!! :-)
Thank you Doug! I'm definitely a ponderer. Someone said to me the other day that not everyone ponders like this and I was like, wow, what would that be like?!? Lol.
There are several gorgeous photos here, Karen! Thank you. I like the way you've shared your prompts in response to the nature around you. You're transporting us to walk alongside and ponder, too.
u took a walk ,to the sea side to observe nature

I just love how what's rare for you can be common for me and vice-versa! Thank you Ken!

Ooooh, that's a poem I have never read. I love the part you quoted! Thank you Lauren!

Thanks for taking us on your walk.
It was much easier for us.
Pondering is an often neglected practice. Thanks for sharing your ponders. It fuels ours.

I love "try easier". Something for this over-doer to remember
100%! It's a lifetime's work, lol.
